Rain
It rained today, and may again overnight. We had about 1/4 inch of rain last night and this morning, and they are saying there are more showers on the way! That doesn't sound like much, and it isn't -- but after months with no more than 1!0 inch of rain, every 1/4 inch is important! Hopefully these small rains will break the ground, too, so that if there is a big el nino rain, it won't just run off. Stay tuned to see what happens next!

Wonderful! Probably a little at a time at first is best.
We had probably less than 1/2 inch over two days -- just right, after so long without rain. Even at that, there were areas that experienced flooding due to blocked storm drains, etc!
My car got wet during the no sleep all night test. I was happy about that. Let's hope more is on the way.
We had two days of light rain -- and now the temp is on its way back to 100 by the weekend! We usually have a little rain in October, then none till later in the fall -- I hope we get more like this very soon.
I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that you get enough to make a difference!
It varies by microclimates, but we had about 1/2 inch over two days -- even at that, some areas had flooding. The sky is lovely today, with puffy clouds, but the temp will be back up to 100 by the weekend!
I am thrilled to hear this. We got rain yesterday and today, also. Of course, it's a far cry from drought ending, but, as you say, it'll soften the ground for absorption by the Real Deal.
Even at about 1/2 inch over 2 days, we had some flooding in downtown LA areas. Light rains here will be important going forward, but more important is snow pack on the Sierras!
thankful with you for every drop!
Half an inch over two days was just right for beginners. It was a cold storm, and there was a dusting of snow at 8,000 feet -- hopefully that means that there was snow on mountains farther north.
I am glad you got more rain in Californuia since october fourth . Yes progressivity is needed to have a soil able to absorb.
Thanks also, Janiet, for your kind comment on xordpress.
Love

It will be 100 over the weekend, then they are predicting more rain midweek next week! It's sort of crazy right now, but at least we are getting a little rain -- and a little at a time.
Oh I am delighted for you Janet, and for all the people there. Yes I too hope that this quarter inch of rain broke the ground so the next downpour will be a totally soaking rain.
Love,
Zakiah.
Can you believe it will be 100 over the weekend -- then they are predicting rain again (but just 20% chance) sometime next week! It was nice to have the two days over the weekend, though, and refreshing, too!
I just scrolled down and had a look at the photographs. The pictures of brown grass and the low water levels on dams is all too familiar to me. I find it hard to understand that it can be 100 where you are and 100 where I am. It isn't like that in all the geography books.
It's fairly traditional for us to have a heat wave in September or October -- as the climate changes from summer to winter, our fall is somewhat unsettled, but the rains don't begin until about January or February. On the coast, our seasons are somewhat ameliorated by the adjacent sea, as are yours in Melbourne. This year, though, we've had many more heatwaves than normal, and they've been hotter and more humid than normal too -- it's all part of "global climate change," and not what we learned in geography lessons in school!
PS. How do I "follow" .On WordPress I just hit the follow button and then I get notified whenever you post something new.
When Xanga converted to a WP site, they closed down the 'follow' function temporarily. It was promised to be up and running shortly after that -- we live with the fact that it's still not there. The best I Can suggest, though not automatic and not really satisfactory, is for you to add me to your browser's favorites list. I usually post more or less weekly, and will try for a while to send you a link when I do post.
