  • Spring Flowers

Spring flowers are beginning to show up nicely over the last week or two.  Last week the Jacaranda trees were in bloom -- the streets are lined with purple flowers and slippery sidewalks!

As that happens, though, the lovely green grasses have already turned brown (this was a VERY hazy day -- it was difficult to see much through the haze!)!

This morning we had a rain shower, and it looks as if there may be another at any time.  I took advantage of a patch of dry, and took these shots from my front door.  First, looking straight down my front path:

And then the flowers on those hydrangea bushes.

  • You live in such a pretty place! I finally found the address of the church I was married in in Santa Barbara. I had known the name, but not the address. The building is still a church, but has a different name. My son helped me find a picture of the building on MapQuest. It looks the same, only the large grass lawn in now parking lot.

    • It is beautiful. I'm not sure what the church is -- but I'm glad you found it! There are a lot of pretty ones in town!

  • So glad you have enough rain to encourage the trees and flowers to bloom. I've always liked Hydrangeas - my inlaws' neighbor has some lovely blue/purple ones. But they spend a lot of time pampering them and making sure the soil pH is just right... Too high maintenance for me!

    • Funny thing -- the hydrangeas have done really well this year on what little rain we have had. I actually haven't even put the hose back out since the place was tented in September or October! And I'm not fussy about color, so don't bother with the chemicals and the pH balance! They really get VERY little attention!

  • Looks lovely, Janet. We have had some rain for a couple of days. My dog hates it. Lol Very preety flowers.

    • Thanks, Frank! We had a total of about an hour of heavy rain today -- we really needed it, but I"m sorry your dog doesn't like it! The whole area is finally looking pretty colorful right now!

  • @slmret: The address is 700 W. Canon Perdido at corner of San Andres. It's called Shoreline Community Church. I was so glad to find it. Would love to see it again, but I don't know if that will ever happen. I never was a good traveler, and I'm worse now that I'm older.

    • Next time I'm there, I'll drive by -- it's not far from roads I travel daily when I'm there.

  • OC's flowers are doing well, at least in your part of it. Our vegetation is also holding up well, especially now that many are removing the water-hogging Bradford Pear trees. The native vegetation does well, without the undesirable competition.

    • The flowers are less prolific, though just as pretty -- and they don't seem to last as long as usual.

  • Hydrangeas always make my heart happy ~ :)

  • I love the beauty of spring - and it looks beautiful in your area.

    • It has been quite pretty this year, though there are fewer flowers and they last less long than usual.

  • I absolutely love the Jacaranda blooms. It had been such a long time since I had seen these blooms. Love the hydrangea too. Do you add anything to the soil to make the blooms have different colors?

    • The jacarandas are beautiful! I hope the sun comes out before they all drop their flowers! Believe it or not, I haven't even watered the hydrangeas this spring -- they must thrive on low water supply! I don't change the chemical content of the soil to change the colors -- they just grow that way!
