  • Green

During a quick break between storms last week, I took the camera to see what hat happened on the construction site.  I could see a little progress, but the most striking thing I saw was that the tops of all the hills are green -- the green of spring; the green after a rain!

And looking through some eucalyptus trees, the hill across the highway is also very green.

In the next week or two, as it clears up, I will have the camera with me, and will be sure to take more photos of the green hills so symbolic of this time of year!

  • It is so nice to see green on your hillsides.

    • It's been marginally green in spring over the past 5 or so years -- it's much greener now than I remember it being for a long time! We now have a period of sun and warm winds to dry it all out -- I hope some of the green remains!

  • I loved to see those green hills when we lived there. It was summer of 1965 when we moved here. I was amazed at how green everything was. Then when we went to Africa, it was greener still. Blue skies, and green hills make me happy.

    • Green hills like this bring the world back to life! It's still cloudy this morning, but we have sunshine and winds predicted for the rest of the week.

  • Such a contrast from the dull gray brown of a month ago! I'm guessing the plants also help anchor the ground to help a little in preventing mud slides?

    • Today was a beautiful day -- started out frosty, but became sunny and almost warm. We expect to be up to 70's by the weekend! The plants do help anchor the ground -- at least some of them do. I've seen iceplant get so heavy that it pulls down the ground it's planted in, and the grasses are so new their roots may not have the strength to hold the hills against mud slides -- but most of the time, the sooner roots establish themselves after fires the less the mudslides.

  • Whatever happened to Frank? That is the question. Sorry, I just thought of that and realize he could have been a fake person. Don't know. Maybe someday I'll find out where he is and who.

I am so looking forward to the green of spring! Love the green hills. I guess the rains did come for you.

    • We did have several storms in a row this past week -- not enough yet to break the drought completely (we're in that still-dark spot on the map), but certainly enough to help the situation. Santa Barbara now says they have enough water for the coming year, but it will take a decade to replace the aquifer that has been depleted. The green is most welcome, and will last for a month or so before it completely dries out!

I had an email address for Frank, and wrote during the fall -- at that time, he wrote back and said he was doing well. When I got home after the holidays, that email address had been shut down. I think he was a real person -- a very sad one. The places he spoke of are real places.
