When at the Flower Fields, I noticed this bird feeding on seeds or worms in a berm along the edge of the field. My bird identification skills escape me on this one, but I think it might be a Song Sparrow.
@TheSutraDude - I used to be able to identify birds really easily -- now only with help! I thought it was pretty, and a bird I hadn't seen before. Thanks -- glad you like the photos!
@plantinthewindow - Thanks, J -- I used to identify birds really well, but even with the book in front of me, it's tough now -- I should do more birding!
I'm not good at recognizing birds. The few I do are robins because they hop around on the ground and Humming Birds because they're tiny and you can't see their wings because they flap at lightening speed. I can spot a pigeon from 50 paces!
@TheSutraDude - Yeah, robins and pigeons and hummingbirds are easy to recognize -- and herons, too! Only 50 paces?
Well it doesn't look sparrowy to me, our sparrows are fatter and not that big. That looks bigger and not so fat/fluffy as a sparrow, and the beak's different, rounder...more cone shaped, best I can see it.
@slmret - Haha! I was being modest in paces. I can pick out a parakeet in a pet store too!
I think I know what kind of bird it is. Just as there are poodles and toy poodles, it's a toy roadrunner!
Such a pretty bird. We don't have those here.
nice
a horned lark it is! a great capture for your list ~
We do love our birds.. I'm still working on trying to get a bird book of some kind. Very nice shots.
very pretty little thing! we had momma and poppa cardinal in our yard yesterday am- hoping the baby shows up soon. (they come every spring!)
Nice shot of bird
Beats me, but it is cute.
@fwren - Thank you so much -- I was hoping you'd come by and help out! I grew up thinking that larks were an eastern bird -- I don't think I've ever seen one! I think I need to do more birding again, and hone the ID-ing skill!
@TheSutraDude - Not this guy, but I have seen a bird that I thought was a toy roadrunner -- it might have been a young one, or something else that ran like a roadrunner!
I just read in your previous comment it's a horned lark. Oh well, but it's a relief to find out. I might not be good at recognizing birds but I can pick a pansy out of a police lineup!
I love the way you have captured the bird. The background is blurred to bring out the details of the feathered friend. Really neat Janet.
Good pic. Should be easy to id in Peterson's Guide.
@ZSA_MD - Thanks, Zakiah -- I always try to do that if ID is an issue!
@Inciteful - Thanks -- I think we have it pegged as a horned lark. It's interesting to see a bird that's on the edge of its range -- I didn't think larks live here!

I don't know what kind of bird it is. Sparrows look different on this side of the States. It's pretty whatever it is. Nice photos of it!
not a sparrow of any kind. looks like a kind of lark, maybe. or vireo. kinda large for a vireo, though.
@plantinthewindow - maybe a horned lark?
pretty. i don't know my birds...
@slmret - very possibly so!

I find that interesting, as I thought larks were an east coast bird -- don't think I've ever seen one!
