Saturday Supermoon
Saturday's moon was a supermoon -- a full moon at its closest to earth. I was able to capture two shots (yes, they are actually two exposures, and not just two posts of the same shot) shortly after moonrise.

For those who missed it, the supermoon will also show it's beauty this evening.

Super job Janet!! I tried to see it this morning, but rain clouds prevented. Hopefully, I will see tonight. Have you heard what time the show is? I might try and get a shot. If it doesn't turn out well, then I'll just come back to your post to view it...
Great shots! We had a clear day and a cloudy night last night. I'm hoping we can catch it tonight, though!
The super moon was shining really bright with rain clouds streaking through it. I tried to get home to my camera but by the time I got back the clouds had already covered it. Our news didn't say we can see it again tonight but I'll check it out anyway.
We meant to get out to see it and forgot-so thanks for sharing with us--we will try to remember tonight
I thought about it around midnight. It didn't really matter though, because as usual in Michigan, whenever there's an astronomical event, the clouds move in to hide it. These are outstanding shots!
As close as I've ever seen it and I've been quite high in my time. For my sins, I ended up in a highrise for a while.
Nice. I saw the moon a bit last night, but I didn't bother to try for a photo because I have horrible luck when it comes to photographing the moon. Maybe I will try tonight anyway.
Beautiful shots. Since it's at it perigee and also full I'm thinking of going outside tonight with a slingshot. If you see a little puff of dirt come up from the moon, that's all me!
good shots, Janet. I forgot and totally missed it.
@armnatmom - Thanks, Kathy (and for the rec)! It's a full moon, so should be there from sundown to sunrise. Weather would be the only obstacle!
@Lady_Kelacy - Gah! Yes -- you do get the marine layer before we do. It was a beautiful day -- I hope you get to see the moon tonight!
@wematter - That must have been beautiful with the streaking rain clouds -- what a shame you didn't have your camera with you!
@Maggietx1 - I hope you get to see it tonight.
@saintvi - Thanks for recommending this, Vi! I hope perhaps you can see the moon tonight instead -- it should still be pretty impressive!
@leaflesstree - I used to have bad luck with moon shots, until I found a trick that fools the camera.
@TheSutraDude - Thanks (and for the rec). I'll watch for that little puff of dirt, and try for a photo of it when I see it! It was really gorgeous last night!
@plantinthewindow - Thanks, j -- maybe not totally missed -- watch for it tonight again, as it should be almost the same! It was quite beautiful!
I looked but it was so cloudy there wasn't much to see. It was clear and 90 today but now the clouds are rolling in. Your photos are great!
Your photos are fantastic. I forgot about it until I saw this post. Thanks for the reminder.
once when we were talking my grandson asked my son," daddy, what are stars?" he said,"that's right you're in bed before the stars come out."
I will have to ask him if he's seen the moon?" LOL
Your photos of the super moon are gorgeous, Janet
there was a light "haze" (smoke?) in the sky around me last night so the moon was not really clear. i dont get nice moon shots all the time and i dont always know why. but you did great with these
I love the moon and your pictures are amazing!
Cool pics! We didn't see it 'til it was above the trees last night, so the best opportunities for shooting it were past. Maybe tonight.
@buddy71 - A "real" photographer, told me to shoot the moon like you would shoot any light source. Short exposure and somewhat closed aperture. I intend to try that advice as soon as I get a chance. We're partly cloudy right now, so there's a decent chance that opportunity will present itself tonight.
Thanks for posting these lovely pics.
It was cloudy last night and I didn't see it when I went outside. Perhaps I'll try again.
Great shots, they are so difficult at night. I took a couple just after sunrise and 15 minutes before moonset. But clouds and red haze obscured a bit (a lot really) of the detail. It did look very full and perhaps I perceived it as larger. I just posted a couple. This time of year here, southern winds bring dry red Oklahoma dust.
I go to bed with the chickens, so it's not likely I will witness the supermoon tonight. Thank you for sharing your shots of last night's glorious moon. My Hunky and son told me it was pretty awesome!
Isn't it gorgeous? Hopefully, tonight I will be able to see it "live" (thunderstorms all last night). I am so glad to see the pictures. Thank you!
Ahhh! The super moon!
@murisopsis - It's been hazy here today -- glad I saw it yesterday!
@dingdongdingbat - I hope you can see it tonight!

@lightnindan - I hope you get to see it tonight, Dan -- I used a flash-induced short exposoure and my longest lens (200mm).
@vexations - Thanks, Bill (and for the rec, too!).
@randaness - It's going to be hazy this evening, I'm afraid -- glad I saw it last night!
@Iamsurrounded - Ooh -- what does the red dust do for the lighting? Your shots are lovely!
@WildWomanOfTheWest - I think the chickens might have seen the moon last night -- it came up just at sunset, when there was still light in the sky. It really was pretty!
@dingdongdingbat - Thanks, Barbara -- and for the mini and the rec!
@SamsPeeps - I hope your weather cooperates! Thanks for the rec!
@Donkey_Guy_10 - Ah, yes, it was super! Thanks for recommending it!

@distractedbyzombies - You're welcome -- it's beautiful -- I hope you see it tonight!
I saw the moon as it was rising, nut fell asleep before it was high enough to appreciate fully. These moon shots are awesome.
@slmret - I hope so too... right now it looks like more rain
No prob on the rec. I think everyone should see this!
I got a few shots, which I will post to flickr. but none so grand as what you have here.
Lovely shots! Thanks for sharing!!
Beautiful shots! I'm hoping to be able to see it tonight, if the clouds stay away that is.
I didn't know. Missed it!
Great shots.
Awesome.
FANTASTIC. I couldn't get out last night because little Andrew was with me and was asleep in bed. M is out of town and so I couldn't get out. Today (this evening) we had major thunder showers, but I hoped I would see quite a bit of the super stuff.(That's what NBC news anchor said). So I went out at 9 p m and drove around. No luck.
May be it will be visible when I am in bed fast asleep. I missed it last year too.
Thanks for posting your shots Janet.

@slmret - no fire so I have no idea where the smell is from.
Simply love these! <3
Great shots Janet, I got to see it too =) the full moon always reminds me of a cantaloupe!
The moon was still out this morning as I drove to work. Looked quite spectacular even in daylight.
Too cloudy where I was, but thanks for the great pictures!
@slmret - You're very welcome.
Unfortunately I missed it but YOU got some great shots.
Beautiful shots!

I spent the past two nights taking walks, and then sitting on the porch just staring at the supermoon! It's been so huge and so gorgeous!!!
HUGS!!!
stunning. It did not look like that when I was out the other night. I should have been looking through a lens
@symphonyoflove - Thank you!

!
We went out last night to see it, but the clouds had covered it up with the storm. Thanks for posting this so we can see it. =)
