  • Can you see fire from your place?

    • Not from my house. As I was driving home yesterday, though, I saw smoke, and that's what prompted my silly little haiku! Most of the fires are small -- they pounce pretty quickly and keep them under 20 acres -- but we have a couple of 20K acre fires burning in Southern California this week.

  • And we are having record rains! I think I'd choose rain over drought any day though. Hope you get some soon!

  • I pray for rain and snow everyday.

    • We might get a little "monsoonal moisture" soon, but it's most likely just going to be humidity, and not rain -- definitely not snow!

  • Fires are scary. I hope you remain safe and that you do get rain!

    • Fires are a part of Southern California summers. I was listening to radio news as I drove down the freeway -- they were talking about one fire after another, most of which were contained to small acreage, though we do have a couple of big ones raging. We don't expect real rain until probably about October, although we might get a little that comes in with thunderstorms (a mixed blessing!).

  • such a pity Janet. Year after year, facing this devastation. We watched this on the news last night. We can only hope and wish for miracles.

    • Generally, it's a fact of life from July to November that there will be wildfires. Over the last few years, the season has expanded, and the fires worsened. So far this year, most have been wildland fires, meaning fewer homes burned, but it's still early in the season. There have been several new ones today, but they seem to have been contained pretty quickly. The Lake Fire, one of two huge fires, has quieted, thanks to a monsoonal t-storm. I keep my ears to the ground these days, and my eyes to the horizon!
