What's next?
As we near the last day of Xanga and hopefully approach the launch of Xanga 2.0, I thought I'd leave you with one last post of some of my favorite shots from the first half of this year. You've seen all of these before, so I won't comment, other than with headings.
Hummingbird

Great Blue Herons

Pelicans

Bird of Paradise

Squirrel

Sailboats

Captain of the Pilgrim

Fog

I have no better idea than anybody else as to where we will be on August 1. If Xanga 2.0 launches (and that is my hope), I will be there. If not, I will activate a wordpress account at slmret.wordpress.com. That may take me a few days, but I will get there! In the meantime, I've enjoyed knowing you all on Xanga, and hope to see you soon, wherever we all end up!

Thanks Janet for those wonderful pictures . If Xanga 2.0 does not appear I have no idea about what I will do . I will work in the garden!LoveMichel
This blog is once again for the birds, unfortunately most birds can't go onto the internet.I am obsessive compulsive and if I were to take a picture of the bird of paradise I would have stopped to clean up the flower a little bit( a little bit of nectar is overflowing), just because that is what professional photographers tend to do.
I shall miss the beautiful pictures from your little corner of the world. That's an interesting mustache the squirrel is sporting. Hehe.
I love your photos. I shall look forward to seeing them on xanga 2.
Thanks for posting these again. Fantastic photos! I still love the squirrel. I love the hummingbird too! A thought occurred to me that perhaps Xanga already has the money to make up the difference but if they were to tell people in advance people might not contribute, thinking there's no need. The thought popped into my head because of an after school job I had at a department store. A couple came into the store with a box of 5 or 6 puppies they wanted to give away. After being pressed I caved in and told them I was off at 8 and if they hadn't given them all away by then I would take one. I didn't really want to because I knew my mom would be angry. They were so cute and adorable that I was certain they'd be long gone by the time I was off in 4 hours. As I was leaving there was the couple waiting for me with one puppy left. I had to take it. I'd given them my word. My mom said we couldn't keep it but after 1/2 hour watching the little guy slip and fall on the kitchen floor, get up wagging its tail and giving my mom kisses when she held it she fell in love with him. The point of the story though is it dawned on me years later. The couple probably gave the other puppies away in 1/2 hour then decided they didn't have to give the last one away because they had a sucker who would take it...moi. Probably went home and came back to wait for me!
And the captain is such a great photo!
Thanks Janet...ilym
@Lady_Kelacy - (((hugs))) Hope you're doing well -- I'll follow you on WordPress to see pics ofo that new litle one!@fauquet - You're welcome, Michel -- and thank you for the rec! In some ways, Xanga's demise could be a healthy thing if it gets us out into the open air more!@PPhilip - Hahaha! Thanks for the rec! Ah, but I'm not a professional photographer -- and nature photographers tend to leave things as they are, photographing what is there, as we see it (I really had to search to find that little bit of nectar!).@ata_grandma - Thanks so much, Barbara -- I certainly hope that's where they'll be, but, if not, you'll find me at slmret.wordpress.com@buddy71 - Thank you so, so much for the flowers! Your feedback has been invaluable to me -- I'll allways remember the distinction between a picture and a photo!@TheSutraDude - Thanks for the rec! Glad you like those shots -- I'm having a hard time picking even two or three out of this group -- next year's calendar will be a difficult one! I like the hummingbird for the technical skill involved (and because he's a cute little bird), and the squirrel for his message (when I first posted that shot, I almost asked for captions -- "throw your trash away"). The first two GBH's in flight will always be favorites -- I might even enter them in next year's county fair ~ ~ ~ And the Captain was such a surprise for me -- a candid portrait!I've also been playing with that thought for several days -- I love your example of the puppy, and hope it stayed as cute and loved as it was when you took it home!
@mlbncsga - And thanks to you, too -- for your readership, and for for the rec. See you in 2.0!
I loved seeing your favorite pictures. Beautiful!
@slmret - You should enter them in the county fair. I don't know if you need a release from the captain or not. It's a candid shot and he was out there as sort of a celebrity of the area so maybe you don't. I'd check though how that works in your State. It's a wonderful photo. He should be happy to be the subject. "A squirrel ate my homework. Really!" I named the puppy Cochise. He was jet black and mostly lab. He and I used to wrestle in the living room. I'd make a sound and he knew to run into the living room and pounce on me. He was a great dog!
@cerwindoris - Thanks so much, Doris -- @TheSutraDude - Haha -- that's a GREAT caption! Yes, the Captain shot would need a release for any contest or other public display! I might try that, but I really was thinking about the herons for the fair, since they don't need to sign off!The puppy sounds like a wonderful dog -- though I'm not really a dog person, especially "big black dogx!" And you seem to have really had a way with your pets, too!
Thank you for every beautiful picture, thank you, with tears in my eyes.
I think I will miss your photos most of all. Thanks for sharing them
beautiful
The hummingbird is a little gem! Thank you for sharing these photos. I hope we'll still be around in a couple days.
Your photography is stunning. The birds in flight, sitting in their nests and the ocean with the sail boats... they are all special to me. Each one of them. A million thanks Janet. I have your address and will keep in touch in case I come along and visit the California shore.Love and hugs to you.
@TheSutraDude - I had this thought myself.
loved seeing these!
Beautiful photos. I'm curious for the first to get here just so ill know what's going to happen.
@reginasikora - Great minds think alike! They also keep their fingers crossed haha.
@TheSutraDude - Mine are crossed so hard I can't get them apart!
Wonderful photos! The best of the best! I do love the herons and if Xanga 2.0 doesn't happen I will cry and then pick myself a new spot - I'm hesitating but WP seems a viable option (probably murisopsis - as if anyone else has that name! hehe)
I love the hummingbird. I don't recall seeing him before this. I hope to see more of your wonderful pictures on WordPress.
@reginasikora - On no don't do that. You won't be able to type in Xanga 2.0!
Great way to end what was memorable for you. ♥ Warmest of thanks for sharing your corner of the world with me. I have taken inspiration from you many a time to better my own photo taking abilities. Peace & happiness to you always.
Thank you, SweetJ., for being so positive and helping Xanga to be a good place! Your photos and words brought so many of us joy!I've tried to remain positive about Xanga and what will come...I've tried to post fun things and help keep some spirits up...but today the tears are flowing. BUT...the Capt. made me smile and the little squirrel made me laugh! HUGS!!!
I like the hummingbird.
Beautiful photos Janet! We all shall continue somewhere... =)Isabel
You always have wonderful photos, love the herons. We will meet again.
These are beautiful ... as always!!I want to thank you, Janet, for sharing your pictures over the years .. I've always enjoyed seeing them when I ventured over your way, which was not often enough!!I remember when my son was in Monterey, CA and we talked about that, too.I am happy to say that he came home to Indiana and brought a wife!
I see you'll be at WordPress, too, even if Xanga 2.0 doesn't launch, and that is good to hear!! Would you please follow me there as I would really like to stay in touch! You can find me 'beginning again' at: http://threadsoffaith2.wordpress.comI am going to miss it here on Xanga ... so many memories locked up in those little .zip files since September 2006!Hope to see you on WordPress soon ... I am making my way around over there. Not as familiar as Xanga, but "I'll get there", too! Blessings to you! ~ Deborah <><
I remember the herons, I read that post! and the hummingbird shot, that is amazing. I regret not having stopped by more frequently to view your photos.
so what happens to our photos will they be automatically transferred to Xanga 2 or are we actually expected to do all of this ourselves "/
They say a picture speaks 1,000 words. I think you just called me a bird brain who is a little squirrely!
Dear Janet,For some reason, I'm not going to bed. I seem to be wandering around Xanga, leaving a (longish) comment here and there. I put your WP site into my spreadsheet. I'm kinda mad at the Xanga Gods for making this "all or nothing" and keeping so many skittish wondering what exactly happens when the servers shut down. I've written this before, and I'll say it again. One of those Xanga gods should just max out a credit card so the 2.0 "happens." Of course, it could still happen, without the full 60 grand. Xanga Gods have been known to keep things from the bloggers in the past.Michael F. Nyiri, poet, philosopher, fool
Swiftly flow the days. I'm thankful we found each other here in this crazy, fun, creative,...Xanga. Hugs!
Thanks for all your great photos and commenting on mine! if xanga is here I will be too!
Love the hummingbird and the captain. Wonderful shots. Thank you for taking part in the art journal. I always meant to post pics of mine... *sigh* .... I'll see you on 2.0 or wordpress. Take good care. peace always
I love your humming bird and squirrel photos, they are so cute!

We'll catch up with each other somewhere.
@whyzat - I'm hoping it will be in Xanga 2.0, but on WP if not.@armnatmom - I came to Xanga for the feedback on my photography -- it's really gratifying to have others say they've learned from me! Thank you for your kind comment!@adamswomanback - I'm so glad I could make you smile -- it's been a difficult day for all of us, and I think we're all beginning the grief process just as if Xanga were a parent or a sibling. Take care, and be in touch!@sweetjessi1 - @WhataWonderfulNewWorld - @Iamsurrounded - Thank you all for your nice comments.@Threads_of_Faith - Yes, do stay in touch -- it's been a great place to be and hopefully we can all join up again somewhere.@leaflesstree - Thanks!@Aloysius_son - Hahaha! Thank you for your suggestions in that regard!@peacenow - Thanks, Jane -- my best wishes to you ~ ~~ @CurryPuffy - Thanks, Gary!

@danceofthesoul - I believe I read that the URL's will not change when Xanga moves to 2.0.
@slmret - OK, I hope I'll be able to comment if I don't keep up a blog! Thanks, Janet!
@danceofthesoul - It's my understanding that anybody (pledged or not) will be able to view and comment -- those who pledged will also be able to blog.
