Summer Skies
Over the past few weeks, we have had some very hot weather in Southern California, with temperatures at or above 100 degrees. With that heat has come what the meteorologists call 'monsoon flow,' or humidity that is drawn from the Gulf of California. There have been some nice sunsets, and some wonderful thunterclouds against the mountains. Below are a few shots I took over the past weekend.

This is a first attempt at posting photos — I will need to learn how to post them where I want them (rather than moving them around), how to adjust the size, and how to ad them in between text. Photo posting seems much more difficult than Xanga so far. Oh, and how do I prevent a post from overlaying the previous post, or is that just on my site that it does that?
A couple of my posts are overlaid too ~ and I cannot even figure out how to do pictures at all ~ can't find my old ones (although my old posts have the pictures on them) and cannot figure out where or how to add photos, let alone adjust size or move them around! Not sure we are even going to have that option. More things I wonder ~ how do I have a banner or something at the top like a picture? Can we do anything with our page except have it plain white? And my old posts that had white text cannot be read now ~ how do I change that?? Sigh ~ I'm feeling really old right now ~ was so ready to start posting, but am afraid to start ~
and how do you get your comments to go on automatically without having to be approved? They ask me to approve every single comment!!
I'm not sure, although I think your comment here posted automatically. May I check that out and get back to you?
On this post, I had to add the pics (in html) all at the top of the post, then move them to where I wanted them (highlight, ctrl-c, move cursor, ctrl-v) -- that may work in the long run, but it's tough when I can't see the photo at the same time! We may not have the option of changing sizes. I don't know about your white text posts -- and I think there are themes and colors somewhere in the dashboard, although that may be yet to come. I have to laugh with you about feeling old -- it is more like WordPress than like the old Xanga. Try with a small post (one or two photos), and expand from there.
No, I meant that when people leave a comment on my post, I have to approve it before it posts! And yes, my comments on yours are going on without your having to approve them. Strange!
May I ask what you mean by adding pics in html??
Yes, I also have to approve the comments of others, too -- I'm planning to check the dashboard for a setting to see if there's a way to diminish that -- it may be a privacy setting. My other comment answered the question about adding pics in html -- instead of a picture, when you add it, you get a string of gobbledygook code that represents the picture.
Fwren -- To change the authorization of comments: On the top blue line of the Xanga Site, go to My Sites/fwren's Xanga Site/Dashboard and click on Dashboard. There will then be a bunch of icons down the left side of the screen -- if you click on the bottom one, it will expand the dashboard and show you what all the icons mean. Go to the next icon up -- Advanced Settings, and in that box click on Discussion Settings. There will be a new screen with a lot of settings. In the left column, one of the possibilities is "Before a comment appears" -- to the right, click off "Administrator must always approve comment" -- if there is no check mark there, you won't have to approve comments for people who have commented before.
Will get back to you later on the photos!
Relax, and play with the settings in the dashboard, and you'll be used to it soon!

I think I saw somewhere that if we have approved a comment before, that we won't have to next time, but not sure that is the way it is working. Are you on Facebook? I need to private message you a question and don't see a way to do that here.
I haven't found a way to pm here, and I'm not on FB -- BUT just under my username in my comments is my e-mail -- you can send your question there.
Nice photos. They are all small, about 2x3 inches but I can click them to enlarge. Let me see if this comment gets through!
It did come through! How did you click them to enlarge to a reasonable size -- when I tried, it went way beyond screen size!
It did! I like the way we can zoom and center photos as we can on Twitter and probably other sites. I was able to cut out the two professors I was with in the Alps in my profile pic without getting pixelated as I would have in Photoshop.
How did you zoom and center photos? -- I haven't figured out how to do that, and would like to post my pics a little bigger than 2x3". I think this will work ok once I get used to it, but it will take a while to figure it all out! Good luck on getting yours to not send you back to the old splash page!
Please let me know how you added your photo -- and how to zoom and center it. Thanks!
Love your cloud photos!

The new Xanga is a lot like WordPress. I know on WP when you post a photo you can choose the size you want it. And I think the photos people put on there look amazing in color and size!
Xanga is not even letting me access my "Dashboard" tonight.
HUGS!!! And we'll get all the bugs worked out! I got my Raid and my flyswatter!!!
Thanks -- I'm glad you like the cloud photos -- I really just posted them for practice, and will do more of that before I figure it all out! There must be an easier way with the photos than what I did -- and with the ability to choose size. It will just take finding it! I'm ok on the dashboard so far tonight, but I"m about to go to bed. Raid and a flyswatter sound like a good idea!!!
Please, if you figure out the sizing and movement of photos, let me know!
You are en route , Janet with your wonderful photos
Love
Michel
I have a problem not solved:I cannot find the site of my commenters in starting from their comment. The name is not a link and the picture either ( the link of the picture does not work ). Could I ask you how you do ( beside the feature "reply"
Thanks
I'm far from an expert, Michel, but I think I would simply type in to my browser bar (at the very top of the screen) the person's address -- http://www.xanga.com/fauquet, for example, or http://www.fauquet.xanga.com. If that does not work, I might try using the "followers/following" feature -- using "following". Otherwise, I don't know.
Great photos as always, Janet.
I'm still trying to figure all this out. WordPress is easier so I may end up there alone if I can't figure all this out.
Thanks, Elizabeth! I'm thinking that once we get used to this it will be better than the old Xanga, but I'm not sure how well it will work for my photo posts ~ ~ ~
Very pretty! I like the last one the best. How are you liking this new format? Do you know who to change the font and size when you makea post?
Thanks, Martina -- No, I haven't figured out posting yet. I'd like to be able to change the size of photos and center them, etc. ~ ~ ~
I love clouds! Your photos of them are gorgeous!
Thanks, Beth -- the thunderclouds have been wonderful recently, with the hot, humid weather we're having. It was in the area of100 degrees today -- I'll be glad when fall comes!
Beautiful images, Janet! I do hope it cools down for you soon! We've had a stretch of very humid 95-98* days here, but it now we are much more comfortable. Love the first image of those big puffy white clouds ... we've seen a few like that here lately, ourselves!
About your images ... I had left a comment on fwren's site on what I discovered about the image size and placement of her photos, and I'll leave it here for you, as well! There may be an easier way, but I've been tinkering around with this all day, and it's what has seemed to work for me! Hope it will for you! Here it is ...

I think I may have found an answer for the size and centering of your pictures! At least I hope so! *This is to change the photos you’ve already uploaded into a post.
1. Go to your post with the image/s, and click ‘edit’.
2. In the editor, click on the image and you will see two little icons in the upper left hand corner.
3. Click the one that looks like a little picture, and it will open up a window where you can adjust the size of your image … choose the next size up. You’ll notice you can also ‘center’ the image there, as well.
4. When finished, click ‘Update’ and that will take you back to the editor.
5. There in the editor, click ‘Preview Changes’ to check it and if it’s not the right size for you, repeat the steps above and change the size again. When you do get it the way you want it, then click ‘Update’ in the editor.
Sure hope this works for you!! I know how frustrating it’s been … I’ve been playing around with my images and that’s what I found that’s worked for me. I’m looking forward to seeing your posts again, too!
Blessings,
- Deborah

So this is the new Xanga? I'm sure you'll figure it all out soon enough. The shots of the sky are beautiful.
The humidity has made it so difficult to get my baking orders done. We are signed up for the "flex your power" rebates so when they send the text saying they are enforcing it and that our ac will be shut down from 2-6 it is like satans sauna and baking is difficult and uncomfortable and things like chocolate dipped apple slices were nearly impossible to make. I hate hate hate the humidity and because of it may never leave California because its just worse anywhere else.
It's been terribly humid here for some time -- not something I remember as part of our summer heat. The prediction is for dryer air beginning as early as tomorrow -- I hope they're right! I can imagine that cooking of any sort is difficult, and baking is particularly affected by humidity -- chocolate dipping must be impossible!!!
I love your photos, Janet---Beautiful.

Thanks, Frank -- I'm glad to see you here!
